The Zeta Chapter works to support Sigma Kappa’s five national philanthropies. Through 2 philanthropy events each academic year, we raise money to support each of these important philanthropic organizations. Sigma Kappa’s five philanthropies are; Sigma Kappa Foundation, Inherit the Earth, Gerontology, Maine Seacoast Mission, and Alzheimer's Research. Our two large philanthropic events raise money for Alzheimer’s research. In the fall, Zeta Chapter hosts a week long fundraising event called "UV Days". Activities include profits shares, a movie event, and a 5K around the National Mall. In addition, we have our spring philanthropy called "Sigmalympics". We organize a large field day on the National Mall to help increase awareness about Alzheimer’s and advocate about the importance of Alzheimer's research. Our Chapter also participates in various community service events such as volunteering at soup kitchens, hosting a blood drive, and partnering with other Greek organizations. We use these opportunities to give back to the DC community as well as promote service across our campus. To support Gerontology, Zeta Chapter hosts an event called "Senior Prom". We partner with a local nursing home and spend the night dancing, eating, and talking with the seniors and even crown a king and queen! We also have events around Earth Day to support Inherit the Earth, and programming during the holiday season to donate goods to the Maine Seacoast Mission.
